The best thing about this hotel is the price for the location. It was half the price of other downtown hotels and yet probably has the best location. It's a short walk to anywhere downtown and there's a train station directly out the front door of you need to go further. The room was large, quiet and clean with a nice city view (11th floor). The staff were accommodating to our needs, stored our bikes which couldn't stay on the room of the car due to height restrictions in the parking garage ($5 per day as others have mentioned). On this trip we've stayed in over 10 hotels all along the west coast and throughout Utah and this is the one that I would most highly recommend of all of them.
The room is clean and comfortable and the staff is very helpful.
I always envied people who could stay at the Plaza - right next door to the Family History Library. It is so convenient - there was even a genealogy bookshop set up in the library one day. The shuttle to the airport came in very handy, desk staff always welcoming and helpful and the cleaning staff did a magnificent job. Twice I used the laundry on the lower level and you can't beat £1.25 to wash and another £1.25 to dry. The microwave and fridge in the room were useful for snacks. My sister and I have promised to meet up there again in 2013 and we wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else.
I understand they get lots of (deserved) complaints about the miserly coffeemaker in the room - one small cup per day and no way I could find to buy the necessary prepackaged coffee. If so many people complain, surely they ought to upgrade the coffee maker. Seems simple.
The location close to Temple Square is very convenient
It looks old and outdated. The rooms would do with a total refurbishing.
Loved the location and the convenience for all the events and sights we needed. Convenient to pop back to with shopping if necessary during the day. Brilliant that the trax was immediately outside the hotel which added to the convenience for the Gateway and meeting friends at the University of Utah, Brilliant that there was a complementary transport to and from the airport. Staff were really helpful and obliging.
Enjoyed the stay during Outdoor Retailer show 2011. Free coffee service at lobby/morning would be perfect. Please consider in the future.
I have stayed at the Plaza several times and had no problems. This last time was different. I made reservations online thinking I was dealing with the Plaza directly. This is not the case when told by the people at the Plaza desk. The on line booking was done through Booked.net. The Plaza excepted the reservation so they are acting as a representative of the Plaza. The conformation I received was for a two night stay for the price of $238.00 total. This was all fees and tax included. When I checked out I didn’t look at the bill until arriving home. To my surprise the bill was $277.98. I called the Plaza and was told that the second nights rate had been increased $40.00 because the hotel was full. This is their policy, so if you book there be prepared for an increase if they fill up the hotel. The other thing was we stayed in room 618. If they offer you that room don’t take it. This room is the smallest they have. Motel 6 has bigger rooms than this. I complained but to no avail. Will I stay at the Plaza again, probably not. PS I would compare this stat to going into a restaurant where your told that a certain meal cost $8.99. You order it and while your eating it a bus load of people come in and fill up the restaurant. The waitress hands you a bill for $14.99, and tells you that it’s our policy when the place is full of customers the price goes up. Would you go back to that restaurant?
I arrived about 8pm . after registering, I went to find parking for my car. I was told the parking garage was full due to you allowing public parking in your facility. finally had to park in the 5 minute parking spot in front of the hotel where your guest register. you need to reserve enough parking to acomodate the guest for your hotel before you fill up your parking with public parking.never been to A hotel that I did not have A space for my car before. was not pleased.
Hotel staff were excellent. Bags were held early and staff were extremely helpful with directions and information. Rooms were nice and very comfortable. Local trax station was right outside the door so it was very easy to get around the city.
Our room had the local tram system outside as well as the street so I found the room pretty noise. That being said I did sleep soundly until early morning as traffic eased off. There is a strict no smoking policy in the hotel and you have to move away from the hotel to smoke. This is something common in the area though it seems as we were also advised that you cannot smoke in the shopping mall/area across from the hotel. This area has big outdoor areas and crosses over main streets but you still cannot smoke here. Might be something for smokers to think about if travelling to Salt Lake City
budget friendly, close to the Arena, pick up at Airport, excellent service
Proximity to City Center, Temple Square, and Salt Palace.
Good location closr to reastaurants Great to visit Temple Square with beautiful flowers and grounds
Loved my room. It was cleaned every day, very promptly. When I first saw it was between two elevators I was worried it might be noisy but is was so quiet, I slept great. Bed was very comfortable. I asked if I could request that room again.
Three times the maintenance staff came to my room to take care of a toilet was running all the time sporadically. On the morning I left the toilet ran for 2 hours while I was packing up. so when I checked out I let them know their was a problem with that toilet. They responded quickly, but one time the maintenance man tried to tell me it was the shower upstairs, but it was not that.
It is conveniently located around our interests. We took the kids to Build a Bear and Temple Square and were able to get there without having to worry about parking.
We had a great time and the location was the best part of all.
No shampoo or conditioner. Not even to buy in the gift shop. The web sight stated that the parking was free but it is not. Might want to update your sight and gift shop.
